11:45 am

We had a visitor - a sizeable praying mantis who was relaxing on the side of the heat pump outside. You can see from comparing him to my hand how stout he was.

This morning, I was climbing around in the woodlot and was struck by how pretty the sun looked as it filtered through the wild grape vines festooning some of the trees.

Some of the deer have been bedding down at night up at Five Pines, my favorite vantage point in all of Possum Cough. Here's the sleeping house as seen from there this morning.

In the high south pasture, the mountains are underlined by the field of corn Mr. D. planted there. Note the large pokeweed in the foreground. I was saying last night how it makes my heart ache to realize how many things Mother will never again do in this life. Fixing me a mess of poke salet is one of those things. Thanks be to God for clear memories.

Our apple tree is heavy with fruit (and don't the deer know it!). They're ripening up real good (Grammar Police, your services are not required here).

Here's one of the apples I picked this morning. If I could convince MeeMaw to fry some up, I'd rest better. I always rest better when I know what the day's meals will be.
